App Nap – allows you to save energy when working with multiple applications. Thus, OS X detects when a program window is completely blocked from the user’s view by other windows. And if in such a window the application does not perform any work for the user (playing music, downloading files, checking mail, and so on), then App Nap minimizes the resources allocated to the program. When the user returns to this window, the OS instantly returns full functionality to the application. The technology works in a similar way to Safari tabs, where only visible pages work at full strength. Thanks to App Nap, CPU usage can be reduced by up to 23%. By the way, the Safari browser also has Power Saver technology, which analyzes the content displayed on the screen and reduces the load on those elements that are not visible. In addition, resource-intensive content such as Flash animation may be stopped by the browser, so the user must manually launch it.

Compressed Memory – allows you to increase the speed of your computer. Running multiple applications can fill up the RAM, making the system noticeably less responsive. Now, when RAM becomes full, OS X Mavericks automatically compresses inactive data, freeing up significant space for current tasks. As soon as the compressed memory elements are needed, the OS quickly decompresses them. Thanks to this, in some cases the system becomes 1.4-1.5 times more responsive.

Safari Power Saver – unnoticed by you.

Many websites display animations using power-hungry plugins, which can drain your battery excessively. OS X Mavericks solves this problem. Safari’s new Power Saver feature detects when you’re paying attention to content and when you’re not. The animations in the center of the page play as normal. But if they’re in the background, Safari’s Power Saver pauses them. You will see a still image and the animation will not play until you click on it. This way, content you don’t find interesting won’t drain your battery. With Safari Power Saver, your processor consumes up to 35% less power when browsing websites with plugins.
